Being a kitty mommy

Being a kitty mommy means that I have toys all over the floor, two unintentional heating pads at night, and I'm greeted at the door whenever I come home to half an hour of meowing. And the meowing whenever I go in the kitchen or get up from my chair. Doesn't matter if they have a full food dish and water or I just gave them treats. I get meowed at. Then, when I try to pet either kitty, they run away. And meow some more. My son knows I need some decompression time when I first walk in the door from work. Why can't kitties understand this?

I can accept that I will have kitty litter tracked through the entire apartment and ground into the carpets. I can even accept the fact that the kitties will chew on power cords and shoelaces. I trained them not to chew on my yarn, after all. But for the life of me, I can't train them not to meow at me for half an hour. They don't meow at my son when he comes home. Only me. And they will cuddle with everyone else. But not me.

Why? Does anyone speak kitty? How do I get them to stop?

  1. LOL - too cute, though I can't help. :-D My kitties were always aloof, and only meowed when they wanted food, it sounds like they are just telling you about their day :-D

  2. Well, it almost really doesn't matter if I'm home all day or gone all day. If I get up from my recliner, Starsky will start meowing at me.

    1. I could understand that they are telling me they miss me if they only meow when I come home. But they meow if I'm in the kitchen or if I get up from my recliner.
